Infrastructure consenting and planning
The key to success in infrastructure consenting is to think strategically and secure experienced consultancy support at an early stage. The Aeos team members have advised on numerous Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in England and Wales.
Infrastructure consenting and planning
The key to success in infrastructure consenting is to think strategically and secure experienced consultancy support at an early stage. The Aeos team members have advised on numerous Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in England and Wales. We’ve chalked up a number of “firsts”, including pioneering some of the early offshore wind projects under the DCO regime, being a core part of the consultant led team to get DCO consent for the UKs first solar NSIP and helping to set the strategy for two, multi-billion-pound, reservoir projects, the first water resources DCOs.
Through the National Infrastructure Planning Association (NIPA) we seek to improve the consenting system and share best practice. We also blog regularly on issues such as consenting strategies for offshore wind and the decision-making process for projects like Sizewell C.
Our preferred working style is to be part of the project team, sitting alongside our clients, identifying solutions and managing risks to ensure that the consenting process is as smooth as possible. Our strategic experience helps us to coordinate the technical advice of the environmental, land, financial, legal and engineering professionals which is required to gain a successful consent.
Environmental support
Environmental issues are an all too frequent cause of delays and unforeseen expenditure during the infrastructure consenting process. In particular, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) processes can become disproportionate if not approached strategically and at an early stage.

We apply our experience of working with environmental consultants and statutory consultees to help clients focus on the environmental issues which matter. Our insights gained from working with the supply chain help our clients act as informed buyers and ensure that environmental issues are appropriately and proportionately addressed.
We work with clients to adopt principles of Good Design which integrate sustainable features into their projects and reduce environmental impact. As environmental assessors, including accreditation for Building with Nature assessments, we understand what good practice looks like.
Strategic development advice
Our project development experience and strategic understanding of the consenting, environmental and land acquisition processes allow us to pre-empt the likely challenges our clients will face.
Strategic development advice
Our project development experience and strategic understanding of the consenting, environmental and land acquisition processes allow us to pre-empt the likely challenges our clients will face. Getting consent is not enough; we always keep the focus on your commercial goals, whether that is a project sale, partnering, a successful financing, or the long-term operation of your asset.
We can help set the strategic direction for your project by delivering readiness reviews, carrying out site selection, by defining milestones and outcomes through the development of project plans, and by supporting commercial arrangements, such as Crown Estate seabed leasing, funders’ due diligence and compliance with regulatory review processes. We support many of our clients by advising on resource planning, helping them become an informed buyer of supporting services.
Communications, consultation and stakeholder engagement
Our colleagues at AEOS Consulting use their DCO expertise to deliver winning consultation and engagement strategies that comply with the Planning Act 2008, national policy and guidance and achieve project success with decision makers, stakeholders and communities.
